Paintings in Oil

Simo Tesla is a musician and visual artist who paints landscapes, seascapes, and still-lifes in oil with palette knife and brush on canvas and board. A frequent traveler, he often finds himself near water and the rolling countryside of the southeast and is inspired to paint. Tesla adeptly captures the energy of the oceans and the serenity of lush landscapes.

Like many of us, Tesla is a pro with a digital camera, snapping his way across America. These photos serve as the inspiration for many of his paintings. As the rhythm of world music churns in the background, Simo’s palette knife moves in time spreading color across the canvas much like you would spread thick frosting on a cake. If one looks closely, you can almost guess the time signature of the song he painted to.
